Disney/Pixar

July 14, 2011 – The Return of Mr. Pooh

Today is a big day. It marks the release of the last film of the Harry Potter Series, which has been making front-page news for the past several months….While some may be thinking, wow, Disney, way to shoot yourself in the foot there. But I think, what a clever juxtaposition…In lieu of letting the highly-anticipated action-packed franchise conquer Box Offices in the middle of the summer, Disney decided to give something to the audiences who are too young or light-hearted to rely on Harry and the gang for entertainment this summer…

June 29, 2011 – Did “Cars 2” Do Too Much?

I absolutely could not wait for Cars 2 to come out last week. But unlike the normal Pixar fan, I wasn’t excited because I wanted to see the movie. No no, actually the Cars series is the only work by Pixar that doesn’t appeal to my interests whatsoever. But what I was excited for was the incessant, over-exposed Cars 2 advertising to finally come to an end.

June 9, 2011 – Crossover Episodes – The New Mini-Genre

The two biggest children’s TV competitors in the US, Disney and Nickelodeon, have jumped on a particular trend the past few years with some of their most popular series. This trend, called “crossover episodes”, is where the network will film 1 episode with 2-3 different casts…

June 4, 2011 – (New) Star Tours Now Open at Disneyland!

This has been a very exciting week for Disneyland, what with the opening of their renovated Star Tours ride in Tomorrowland…Here is the HILARIOUS viral video that was made for the opening of Star Tours, which follows Darth Vader and two Stormtroopers through their day at Disneyland…

May 23, 2011 – Who’s Excited?! A Compilation of Muppet Marketing

In a few short months (11/11), The Muppets, a Walt Disney Pictures film, will be released. The film will, of course, feature the classic Jim Henson puppets. But what makes it extra exciting are the other creative minds involved in the project….

May 22, 2011 – “Pirates 4” Making Waves…But Not as Many as the Others

After hiring an outside head of marketing for the film Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Disney came up with some pretty exciting tactics for marketing the latest (yet, unfortunately, not the last) film in the P.O.T.C. series. Most of the marketing, I noticed, took place online and through mobile devices, and was geared towards an older audience, which makes sense, seeing as the series marks the first films Disney has rated PG-13…

May 22, 2011 – “Pirates 4” — What Does it Mean for Carney?

Image from HollywoodReporter.com

As Disney fans are WELL aware, the fourth movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean series hit theaters this past Friday, May 20. But what fans may not know is that for the film, Disney hired an outside marketing guru, Ms. Valerie Van Galder, to run the show for On Stranger Tides marketing…

Jan. 10, 2011 – Hannah Montana Forever? Or Dead Already?

…it is now called Hannah Montana Forever, perhaps because during this season she officially comes out to everyone as leading a double life. But also, from a darker marketing angle, I think it is a desperate attempt to cling onto the image of fun innocence, which Hannah Montana portrayed perfectly, while the person behind the wig was off independently renouncing herself as a Disney starlet…

Nov. 29, 2010 – “Tangled” Success!

Well folks, it looks like Disney is back on top! Their new movie, “Tangled”, was the box office leader this Thanksgiving weekend with a sensational $67 million! I went to the theater this weekend to see “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” and was overwhelmed by the amount of small children and parents…

Nov. 16, 2010 – Side Note to Give Disney Yet Another Pat on the Back…

So, this isn’t exactly children’s entertainment, per say, but I just discovered that Disney will soon be releasing a new “Minnie” fashion line at Forever 21! We all know what this means…coming up next? Children wanting to look like their siblings AND like their favorite Disney characters. That’s some intense Disney obsession….

Nov. 16, 2010 – Tron’s Remake – A Marketing Legacy

Disney has done it again, ladies and gentleman! (Did you ever doubt them though, really??) With the release of the “Tron: Legacy” on December 17, 2010, fans will finally get their reward after three-and-a-half years of waiting. Disney has been working hard to get the word out, and their efforts have certainly paid off!…

Nov. 3, 2010 – Rapunzel, Rapunzel…We Don’t Need Your Hair

Ok, pretty much everyone knows that the ruler of all children’s entertainment is Disney. It goes without saying that they have some of the best films for young audiences in the world, and additionally, some of the most clever and successful marketing strategies of all time….
